ADA Policy Statement & Complaint Procedures

The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) prohibits discrimination and ensures equal opportunity and access for persons with disabilities.

Policy Statement

Southern Iowa Trolley prohibits discrimination in employment, educational programs, services, and activities on the basis of race, national origin, color, creed, religion, sex, age, disability, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or associational preference. As a program of the University and recipient of Federal financial assistance, the Southern Iowa Trolley is committed to ensuring no person is excluded form participation in or denied the benefits of its services on the basis of disability.

Complaint Process

Any person who believes they have been subjected to discrimination under the ADA based on their disability may file a complaint with the Southern Iowa Trolley, Transit Director, 215 E. Montgomery St., Creston, Iowa 50801; by telephone (641) 782-6571, or by email at trandir@southerniowatrolley.org within 180 days from the date of the alleged discrimination.

The Southern Iowa Trolley Transit Director is responsible for all operations of the transit system and is committed to assuring that all employees and services comply with the ADA policies. He/she will maintain a log of all ADA complaints, investigate promptly, and utilize all resources available. If an ADA violation is found to exist, remedial steps as appropriate and necessary will be taken. The complainant will also receive a report of the findings and the actions taken. If the Southern Iowa Trolley Transit Director determines that no ADA violation is found, and the complainant wishes to appeal the decision, he/she may appeal directly to the Southern Iowa Trolley Board of Trustees, 215 E. Montgomery St., Creston, Iowa 50801. He/she will follow-up promptly and will/may utilize the resources of Iowa DOT Office of Public Transit. If an ADA violation is found to exist, remedial steps as appropriate and necessary will be taken. The complainant will also receive a report of the findings and the actions taken. Should Southern Iowa Trolley receive an ADA compliant in the form of a formal charge or lawsuit, the complaint will be forwarded to Southern Iowa Trolley’s General Counsel’s Office. All complaints received will be retained on file for a minimum of five years.
